A New Future, in 33 words.

This week's prompt at the Trifecta Writing Challenge is "new"; as always, we are to use the third definition in a 33-333 word response.

The third definition of new:

3: having been in a relationship or condition but a short time

Not surprisingly, at least to me, I have created a 33 word poem for your consideration:

I cannot see,
     only the dark remains;
once startled,
     cold sorrow awakens.
Selfish, empty words:
     the object of once
          pure hearts.
I resign.
Now to face
     a new future,
A life without light.

  1. I hope the "ray of hope" comes shining through.
    The poem is well written.

    1. Thanks, I'm glad you liked that line, it seems like sorrow should be cold, right?

  4. This is such a beautiful, but sad, poem. The hopelessness makes my heart ache. Sure hope there are smiles, soon!

  5. I feel the sadness that I'm hoping isn't truly yours. Very nice.

    1. Thank you ODNT, luckily I haven't ever actually felt like this for more than a moment or two. Sometimes it is just easier for me to write sad pieces.

  7. This one could so easily be the answer to Paula J's! Reading these two in order is fun, because it makes me imagine a storyline that connects the two.

    1. Thanks for reading JQ! I read Paula's and definitely think mine could be the husband's reaction to the letter. Or maybe this was the wife's initial feeling when she realized it was over and time to move on.

  8. I didn't know how to comment on this poem, as I suspected that it reflects your current state of mind. I came back to say that I hope you're feeling better and that some light has broken in, and will continue to grow in brightness and intensity.

    1. Thank you Sandra.
While this poem actually wasn't about me personally, or anyone I know, I very much appreciate your good wishes :) I think the sadness I've been feeling was more related to the stress and fear over our decision to move than to actually being sad about leaving-I'll miss my cousin/boss and my work environment, and the beach of course, but aside from my cousin I had no family or friends in FL. And once we actually left Florida (we drove out Friday morning and made it to Nevada yesterday morning) I actually began to feel optimistic, even excited about it
